Ark Nova is an inflatable, mobile concert hall created in 2013 in response to the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and tsunami. The structure was designed by Anish Kapoor with late architect Arata Isozaki and engineered with consultancy Tensys. The purple, donut-like PVC textile membrane is self-supporting and pneumatic, providing structural rigidity and acoustic properties without metallic frameworks. The project's name invokes Noah's Ark as a symbol of hope, renewal and art-driven community healing. Ark Nova debuted in Matsushima on September 27, 2013, toured tsunami-affected northeastern Japan for more than a decade, and made a European appearance at the Lucerne Festival.
