Sandscape Lighting by Studio Haran Breathes Water Into Wood
"Water's unique properties make it different from every substance on our planet - a precious, life-giving substance, filling gurgling streams, underwater lakes, and our own blood vessels. Not satisfied with sustaining us and everything we know, the vertices of ripples extending out on a quiet pond, or the white-capped surf of a stormy bay are beautiful within their own right, captured deftly by UK-based Studio Haran."
"Inspired by the ever-shifting patterns of the Cornish coastline, the unique vertices of the collection were developed from 3D scans of tidals and formations on the studio's local beach. "Water has been shaping our landscape since the beginning of time," says co-founder Joel Haran. "Those simple yet impossibly complex ripples became the foundation for the entire collection." As sunlight rakes over the soft dimples in sand and surf, this depth is translated quite eloquently into lighting,"
The Sandscape Collection renders tidal motion and ripple vertices into static wood and ceramic forms that evoke water's movement and depth. 3D scans of Cornish coastline tidals and formations supplied the distinctive vertices and grain-accenting dimples. Lighting pieces employ a singular orb to cast soft, dappled illumination across finished wood, enhancing shimmer and surface texture. Material options include oak, walnut, and ebonised oak, with ceramic elements available in signature glazes and customizable pigmented satin or glossy finishes. The collection emphasizes organic coastal patterns while preserving wood grain and offering varied tonal palettes and textures.
