"Across houses, cultural buildings, installations, and pavilions, his projects carry a sense of curiosity toward materials and landscape, often pairing rough stone, translucent surfaces, and elemental forms to shape spaces that feel both ancient and contemporary."
"Projects such as the Vik Winery in Millahue, the extension to the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art in Santiago, and the widely visited Serpentine Pavilion in London demonstrate an approach that balances fragility with monumental presence. In many cases, structures appear almost provisional, as though they arrived lightly within their landscapes."
"The announcement celebrates a body of work that invites people to experience architecture through atmosphere, material presence, and a sense of discovery."
Smiljan Radić Clarke, a Chilean architect born in Santiago in 1965, has been awarded the 2026 Pritzker Architecture Prize, the profession's most prestigious international honor. Working from his studio in Chile since 1995, Radić has developed a distinctive architectural approach that combines rough stone, translucent surfaces, and elemental forms to create spaces balancing fragility with monumentality. His notable projects include the Vik Winery, the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art extension, and the Serpentine Pavilion in London. This award makes him the second Chilean architect to receive the Pritzker Prize, following Alejandro Aravena in 2016. Radić's work invites people to experience architecture through material presence and atmospheric qualities, with structures appearing almost provisional within their landscapes.
