Minimalist welded clock redefines timepiece design - Yanko Design
"Designed in collaboration with DanielSchofield, the concept began after a conversation about the "24Hours" exhibition in the fall of2024. Schofield proposed a clock welded in twelve places, each weld simultaneously holding the structure together and marking an hour on the dial. The challenge was to create the entire form from one continuous sheet of stainless steel, tensioned only by those twelve tiny welds."
"In the studio, Wolfond and his team used a manual tenton press and a modest welding setup to shape the piece. After several iterations, the welds were reduced to barely visible tacks, turning the clock into a precisely engineered sculpture. Each of the twelve welds is slightly different, casting subtle tones on the clock's kaleidoscopic faces and giving the piece a dynamic, everchanging visual rhythm."
"The clock is made from SAE304 stainless steel, with accents of plastic and aluminium for the hands and mounting hardware. It measures 28.5, fitting comfortably on a wall or a mantel without dominating the space. The minimalist aesthetic, combined with the intricate weld pattern, appeals to collectors who appreciate both design purity and technical ingenuity. Edition3 is offered as a limited run of 50 pieces, with a few dozen still available at a price of $280USD."
Jamie Wolfond Studios collaborated with Daniel Schofield to create a clock welded at twelve points, using each weld both to hold the structure and mark hours. The form comes from a single continuous sheet of SAE 304 stainless steel, shaped with a manual ten-ton press and modest welding tools. Iterations reduced the joins to barely visible tacks, producing subtle tonal variation across kaleidoscopic faces. The 28.5×28.5×4 cm clock uses plastic and aluminium accents for hands and mounting, runs on a single AA battery, and is offered as a limited edition of 50 pieces at $280 USD.
