"A pearl's allure is undeniable - the sheen, iridescence, and depth has enchanted humans for millennia. This specific luminosity usually does not extend past the pearl itself, yet with Pearlized, the unmistakable finish now anchors an activation in a swirling school of ceramic fish marking a welcome return for Kohler at Design Miami 2025. The storied brand collaborated with Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios to design the exhibition, bringing an immersive, playfully submersive depth to the space."
"Drawing from years of working alongside Kohler artisans and engineers, Franklin brings both a deep command of ceramic technique and a distinct sense of meditative movement to the booth. A stainless steel, futuristic door first greets onlookers and visitors, offering a peek into the periwinkle scene beyond. After a brief inscription, guests are invited into this slow, meditative world - akin to looking up as light penetrates crystal waters."
Kohler returns to Design Miami with Pearlized, an immersive installation of ceramic fish showcasing a proprietary luminous finish. Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios designed an enveloping periwinkle environment anchored by a softly lit pool and a reflective surface beneath the ceramic school. Artist David Franklin co-developed the finish, drawing on MakerSpace experience and work with Kohler artisans and engineers to achieve radiant glazing and meditative movement. Each fish is cast, glazed, fired to luminosity, and lit from above in a blue-to-purple sway. A stainless-steel entrance and seating ledge invite slow viewing, encouraging visitors to linger within the fluid, hive-like choreography.
