""architecture should be rooted in and bear fruit from the local context and traditions""
The Itami Jun Museum is an art museum dedicated to the late Japanese-Korean architect Itami Jun. The design follows his philosophy that architecture must be rooted in and bear fruit from the local context and traditions and draws on his main architectural languages. The building adapts to the Jeju locales and responds sensitively to the surrounding landscape. The design purposefully avoids disturbing the horizontal and serene character of the nearby Jeju forest, Gokjawal. The museum integrates contextual responsiveness with architectural language to honor the architect's principles while preserving site ecology and visual continuity.
