Indonesia's Futuristic Prefab Home Is Ready for Anything: From Floods To Unannounced Guests - Yanko Design
"Situated in the verdant hills of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, sits something that looks like it dropped straight out of a sci-fi movie. The Drop Pod by Inspiral Architecture and Design Studios isn't your boring old prefab box. This intriguing structure has curves in all the right places, and every swooping line serves a purpose. Built in 2025, the Drop Pod addresses a problem we're all grappling with:"
"The first thing you notice is how the dwelling sits. Perched 60 centimeters off the ground on a riverstone foundation, it's like the architects said, "What if we just lifted the whole thing up?" Smart move, considering Indonesia's flooding issues. That elevation also creates a nice covered area underneath and handles uneven ground without breaking a sweat. It cleverly turns a vulnerability into a design strength."
Drop Pod sits in the verdant hills of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia and features curved, purpose-driven forms. Built in 2025, the pod aims to provide adaptable, weather-resistant housing that works in diverse contexts. The structure is perched 60 centimeters above ground on a riverstone foundation to mitigate flooding, create covered space, and handle uneven terrain. Interior mezzanine layouts double usable space within a small footprint and allow seamless flow between levels. The modular shell can be adjusted for climate, cultural needs, or family size. Units can stand alone, connect as extensions, or cluster into neighborhoods and can be assembled in about one week.
