carved in steel and stone, sculptural electronic piano transforms from instrument to monolith
Briefly

Batten and Kamp, alongside digital artist Henry Chu, launched the Steel and Stone Piano V2, a highly functional electronic piano that doubles as a sculptural piece. Made from stainless steel and solid granite, this instrument transitions smoothly between two modes: a horizontal playing mode and a vertical monolith mode. This design reflects influences from minimalism, brutalism, and science fiction. After its introduction at Art Basel Hong Kong, a re-engineered version was developed featuring a hidden hinge and minimal USB interface. Only 8 pieces are available, with high-profile collectors already acquiring the first edition.
The Steel and Stone Piano V2, designed by Batten and Kamp in collaboration with Henry Chu, exemplifies the fusion of art and functionality, transforming between a playing and aesthetic form.
Fabricated from stainless steel and granite, the piano showcases a dialogue between engineered precision and the elemental nature of materials, embodying influences of minimalism and brutalism.
