"The brief was to develop a sculptural lounge system with all the benefits of traditional office seats."
"Candy features curved, straight, and end segments that are made to attach to a plinth base, which can then be placed in any number of configurations throughout a space, like basic line formations or curved around columns."
""I enjoy the interplay of the colors of the upholstery and wood veneer," she says. "A pastel palette creates a softness that is beneficial to our well-being.""
A Seattle-based manufacturer introduced Candy, a modular lounge seating range focused on the contract sector. Memo managing partner David Simon commissioned Carole Baijings, who created the collection through Carole Baijings Studio for Design. Candy comprises curved, straight, and end segments that attach to plinth bases for multiple configurations and concealed ganging, allowing reconfiguration without new components. Units are fully upholstered with veneer or laminate back options and finished on all sides. Baijings applied atelier-style color work to produce pillowy forms and light tones; stains use a two-step conversion varnish with hand-rubbed and spray application for durability and character.
