A new book detailing the family tree of Leonardo da Vinci uncovers 21 generations of his descendants dating back to 1331. Authored by Alessandro Vezzosi and Agnese Sabato, 'Genìa Da Vinci' aims to facilitate scientific studies of Leonardo's DNA, potentially illuminating aspects of his remarkable artistic and scientific legacy. This comprehensive genealogical investigation identifies 15 direct male-line descendants of Leonardo, providing a foundation for future research into his genetic background and health, alongside the historical context surrounding his family.
'Our goal in reconstructing the Da Vinci family's lineage up to the present day, while also preserving and valuing the places connected to Leonardo, is to enable scientific research on his DNA.'
The new Italian-language book, 'Genìa Da Vinci. Genealogy and Genetics for Leonardo's DNA', is 'one of the most advanced historical-genetic investigations ever undertaken', according to Vezzosi and his co-author Agnese Sabato.
