
"The number of sensors on each race car has tripled, with around 750 of them, each sending back a different data stream, amounting to around 1.5 terabytes per car per race. Telemetry used to be pretty basic-a TV feed, throttle, brake, and steering applications, and so on. Telemetry evolved from simple TV, throttle, brake, and steering feeds to hundreds of distinct data streams monitored by engineers on-site and in the factory. Immediate transfer of telemetry to the factory enables setup fine-tuning and real-time race-strategy decisions. Speed, reliability, latency, and security of data links are critical because milliseconds can determine race outcomes. Teams have increased personnel since 2017 yet reduced spending by prioritizing efficiency alongside performance. Typical cross‑continental latency can be as low as 0.3 seconds.
