Why the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day turkey may be extra juicy
"We know the Cowboys will begin the 2026 season in the same place the 2025 season came to an anticlimactic end, at the New York Giants for Sunday Night Football. This will also (bare with us here) mark the second straight season that Cowboys fans are "waiting all day for Sunday night" to begin the season. Last year the waiting was actually on a Thursday night for the NFL kickoff game at the Philadelphia Eagles, yet in TV terms this still counts as a presentation of NBC's SNF."
"Speaking of the reigning-division champion Eagles, their annual trip to AT&T Stadium will come on Thanksgiving this year. The Cowboys will play the Eagles on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2014, looking for their first ever Turkey Day win against Philadelphia. Thanksgiving 2026 will be the fourth time in five seasons the Cowboys play a divisional opponent on Thanksgiving."
"Two of these previous three were against the Giants in 2022 and 2024, turkey sandwiched around a 2023 win against the Washington Commanders. 2014 was the last time the Cowboys hosted the NFC East version of birds on a holiday centered around cooking a bird. It was unfortunately the home team getting cooked in the 2014 version of this game though, as the Eagles won 33-10."
"The only other Cowboys versus Eagles Thanksgiving game was also lopsided for the visitor, a 27-0 win in a game with a name. Buddy Ryan's Eagles won the "Bounty Bowl" in shutout fashion against a Cowboys team that finished the season 1-15 in Jerry Jones' first season as owner. The Cowboys were shutout three times that season, with the final one coming two wee"
The Cowboys 2026 season begins at the New York Giants for Sunday Night Football, continuing a pattern of late-season anticipation for fans. The Thanksgiving slate includes a Cowboys home game against the Philadelphia Eagles, their first Thanksgiving meeting since 2014. The Eagles visit AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving as part of their annual tradition. This Thanksgiving matchup marks the fourth time in five seasons the Cowboys face a divisional opponent on Thanksgiving. Previous Thanksgiving divisional games included meetings with the Giants in 2022 and 2024 and a 2023 win over the Washington Commanders. The last Cowboys-hosted Thanksgiving Eagles game in 2014 ended in a 33-10 loss, and the earlier Thanksgiving matchup featured a 27-0 Eagles shutout in the Bounty Bowl.
