The Dallas Cowboys have successfully sourced talent from spring football, notably signing KaVontae Turpin in 2022 and Brandon Aubrey a year later, who combined for four Pro Bowl appearances. Perrion Winfrey followed a UFL path with the Birmingham Stallions, producing 29 tackles and a sack in 10 games and earning all-UFL honors. Winfrey viewed the spring league as a second chance and embraced any opportunity to keep playing. UFL executive Daryl Johnston identified Winfrey as one of the more dominant players in the league. Other UFL defensive linemen, Jalen Redmond and Dondrea Tillman, have reached NFL rosters.
"I would say the spring league helped me phenomenally, because it gave me a second chance and another opportunity to get my name out there and show that I can still play football," Winfrey said. "At first, I was kind of skeptical on it, nervous, not knowing if I wanted to do it, but then I just saw it as an opportunity. And nothing else was coming, so I was like, 'Man, another opportunity to play football, I don't care if it's Canada or anywhere. I just wanted to put a helmet on.'"
In 2022, the Cowboys signed wide receiver/return specialist KaVontae Turpin after an MVP season with the New Jersey Generals of the (now defunct) USFL. A year later, they added kicker Brandon Aubrey from the USFL's Birmingham Stallions. They have combined for four Pro Bowl appearances -- two apiece -- and are considered one of the best, if not the best, at what they do.
