Two of those three picks not on the roster, Justin Rogers and Tommy Akingbesote, were both late seventh round picks and neither are currently on an NFL roster. The third, of course, was 2024 second rounder Marshawn Kneeland, who passed away last week."

The Cowboys used 17 combined picks across the two most recent drafts and retained most of them: eight of nine from last April and six of eight from 2024 remain with the team. Two late seventh-rounders are not on NFL rosters, and a 2024 second-rounder died recently. The 2022 class is the decade's strongest with six of nine assets still around and three starters (Tyler Smith, Jake Ferguson, DaRon Bland). The 2023 class has underperformed with only two of eight retained, including a traded first-rounder (Mazi Smith). The 2020 and 2021 classes produced few long-term contributors.
