BTB Thursday Discussion: Should the Cowboys bench some starters if eliminated?
"The Dallas Cowboys have only one path into the playoffs at this point and it is as the NFC East winner. In order for this reality to come to pass they would have to win their final three games and have the Philadelphia Eagles lose theirs. It is a tall order to say the least. Philly visits the Washington Commanders this week, travels to face the Buffalo Bills next, and hosts the Commanders in the season finale."
"Should the Cowboys bench some of their starters if they are eliminated from the playoffs? Dallas plays on Christmas Day next week which is on Thursday, so if the Eagles somehow lose to Washington on Saturday. then Dallas would have life for their next two games, assuming they beat the Chargers which is a dangerous thing to assume right now. Stranger things have happened."
The Cowboys need to win their final three games and have the Philadelphia Eagles lose theirs to win the NFC East and qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles face the Washington Commanders, then travel to Buffalo to play the Bills, and finish by hosting Washington, creating multiple possible outcomes. Dallas plays the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday after Philadelphia's Saturday game, so an Eagles win would render Dallas' game meaningless for playoff qualification. If the Cowboys are eliminated, the team may face at least one game without playoff implications, prompting consideration of resting starters during that game.
