Denmark's defense committee head said he regrets choosing the F-35: 'We must avoid American weapons if at all possible'
Briefly

Rasmus Jarlov, head of Denmark's defense committee, expressed regret over the country's choice of the F-35 fighter jet, citing security concerns about the potential leverage the US could exert over Denmark. He fears that the US could threaten to deactivate the fighter jets or halt spare part supplies, compromising Denmark's defense. Jarlov suggested that Denmark's reliance on American weapons could allow the US to pressure Denmark on geopolitical issues, highlighting the need for Denmark to diversify its armament sources to avoid such risks.
As one of the decision-makers behind Denmark's purchase of F-35s, I regret it. We obviously cannot take your word for it.
I can easily imagine a situation where the USA will demand Greenland from Denmark and will threaten to deactivate our weapons and let Russia attack us when we refuse.
Therefore, buying American weapons is a security risk that we cannot run. We will make enormous investments in air defense, fighter jets, artillery, and other weapons in the coming years.
