The X account of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) was hacked, resulting in unauthorized tweets promoting a crypto airdrop. With a large following of 851,000, the firm quickly reacted, with a crypto team member warning users not to engage. Following the incident, a16z confirmed the breach and clarified that none of the promoted content was legitimate. The incident highlights the risks associated with cryptocurrency promotions, especially those that seem too good to be true, as they often conceal scams aimed at draining users' wallets.
Earlier today, our X account was briefly compromised. During that time, the account promoted a token and other fake content - none of which originated from a16z.
A member of a16z's crypto team saw the tweet and immediately posted a warning not to engage.
Airdrops are usually used as ways for cryptocurrencies to promote themselves.
If it sounds too good to be true - like a VC giving away valuable assets - it isn't true.
