A federal judge has allowed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employees limited access to US Treasury payment systems, following training and vetting. The ruling by US District Judge Jeannette Vargas follows a case against President Trump by 19 states. Vargas maintains a preliminary injunction prohibiting full access remains in place, yet has permitted specific DOGE employees to access the Bureau of Fiscal Services system, stating that they have met necessary security requirements. The court will not require prior approval for onboarding new DOGE staff who meet the outlined conditions.
"The issue before the Court is a narrow one. The parties are in agreement that, in light of this Court's PI [Preliminary Injunction] Modification Order, the New DOGE Employees should be permitted to have access to BFS payment systems on the same terms as Wunderly."
"There is little utility in having this Court function as Treasury's de facto human resources officer each time a new team member is onboarded."
