Second measles case reported locally, Austin Public Health says - Austin Monitor
Briefly

A Travis County adult has tested positive for measles, marking the second case in the area this year. Health officials believe the individual may have contracted the virus during travel to a region with a current rise in cases. Despite being vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, which typically provides 97% immunity, breakthrough cases can occur. Health authorities stress the importance of vaccination for protection and advise checking on booster doses for eligible individuals. APH has released public exposure sites to inform others who may need to take precautions.
"While a vaccinated person can still get measles, they are more likely to experience mild symptoms and are less likely to spread it," Dr. Desmar Walkes, Austin-Travis County health authority.
"We consider measles to be one of the most contagious viruses we know and getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself," according to Dr. Desmar Walkes.
