Christophe Laporte ruled out of Tour de France participation due to cytomegalovirus

Christophe Laporte, a rider for Visma-Lease A Bike, is set to miss the 2025 Tour de France due to prolonged recovery from cytomegalovirus. Despite showing improvement, Laporte is not fit enough for the race following a missed spring Classics season. Directeur sportif Grischa Niermann confirmed that he won't be part of the Tour squad while teammates train at altitude. Laporte's symptoms began in January, contributing to delays in his training and competitive return. His health remains a priority as he gradually works towards recovery.
"Unfortunately, he's been out for a while. He's already missed the entire Classics campaign, and he won't be fit for the Tour," Niermann said.
"Right before I was supposed to go on an altitude training camp at the end of January, I started feeling unwell," Laporte said back in March.
"He's really, really slowly improving... but it's taking time, much longer than we'd like and he'd want. But that's life," Niermann told L'Equipe.
"We hope he'll get back in shape and be able to train as quickly as possible. But, for the moment, he's not 100% yet."
