Nadiya Hussain Goes Scorched Scone on the BBC
Briefly

Nadiya Hussain, a former Great British Bake Off winner, announced that the BBC decided not to commission her cooking show after a decade. She expressed that she no longer fit into the network’s expectations. Hussain mentioned receiving pressure on how to communicate the decision, but insisted on revealing the complete truth. The BBC acknowledged their decision but emphasized that Hussain remains valued. Hussain, however, questioned their suggested narrative as misleading, indicating her preference for transparency in her career.
Hussain won GBBO in 2015 and for the past ten years has been putting out cooking shows on BBC. She revealed its decision in a June 6 Instagram video. "The BBC have decided that they didn't want to commission a show," she said, per The Independent. "And for me, that was a huge turning point because it's something I've done for the past ten years."
The second you don't fit the box, like they have a neat little box, when you don't fit that box anymore, there'll be no space for you. And I suppose I don't fit that space anymore.
I chose to put that post out because that's the truth - they chose not to commission my show - but when we were going back and forth as to how to announce that, I got an email back saying, 'This is a proposed statement and I think Nadiya should say: I no longer want to do my show on the BBC because I'm focusing on different projects,' and I said, 'That's not the truth.'
The BBC sang a different tune in its statement about Hussain's show. "After several wonderful series we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment."
