Second Met Police officer in a week is sacked for running side business
"This was not simply a volunteering opportunity, this was a full-blown and expanding business supported by incorporation of that business, the granting of a director's loan and employment of staff. PC Kennett is also noted to have been actively engaged on social media promoting that business. This was a sophisticated operation, and PC Kennett appears heavily involved at all points."
"Running a business, whether for financial gain or not, whilst suspended on full pay, brings policing and the MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) in particular into disrepute. Members of the public would not expect serving police officers to act in this way."
PC Stanley Kennett, 31, was sacked by the Metropolitan Police for running The Coffee Cycle, a coffee company, while suspended on full pay. He applied for business interest approval in April 2024, which was declined, but continued operating the venture anyway. By September 2025, the unauthorized business was confirmed as active and expanding, with Kennett serving as director. The business, based in a West Sussex bike shop, served coffee, cake, and pastries while employing staff. A misconduct hearing found Kennett guilty of gross misconduct for operating a sophisticated business operation while receiving police salary. Commander Andy Brittain stated the conduct brought disrepute to policing and violated public expectations of officer behavior.
