"In moments of urgency, it can be challenging to keep a grip on the rhythm of ordinary life. That's one of the many reasons we publish Fogcutter, SFGATE's weekly column of events, shoutouts and slices of life. Every Sunday, we write about hyperlocal art shows, concerts and cafes. We hope to provide an oasis of quiet when the headlines get loud - not to offer an escape, but some grounding."
"If you've enjoyed a coffee at an event in San Francisco in the last decade, odds are it's been from Hedge Coffee. This December Hedge will have been in business for 10 years, and it's popping up at close to 400 events per year. Now it finally has its own home in the Mission at 434 Shotwell St. And it might just be the most beautiful coffee shop in town."
A tense Bay Area week included a planned, then canceled, immigration crackdown, prompting cycles of alarm, fear and relief among locals. A weekly local roundup aims to restore ordinary rhythms by highlighting hyperlocal art shows, concerts, cafes and neighborhood life. Hedge Coffee opened a longtime-awaited Mission storefront at 434 Shotwell St., featuring a redwood-framed courtyard, high-ceilinged redwood paneling, an audiophile Klipsch sound system with rotating DJs, and a Loring roaster from Santa Rosa noted for environmental efficiency. Other highlights include crab-catching in the Presidio and a quirky Haight Street art show.
