Mill City Roasters Unveils M-Series Machines with In-House Fabrication
"A signature feature of the new machines is a "monolithic chassis," a laser-welded plate steel construction designed to act as a "thermal battery" that can store and predictably release heat, allowing roasts to rely more on latent energy and less on applied burner heat, according to Davis. The machines also feature shaftless double-walled drums, with the outer wall evenly diffusing the burner heat to prevent conductive heat defects in the inner drum."
"The new line reflects a massive undertaking behind the scenes at Mill City Roasters, where fabrication has been brought in-house at the company's new 40,000-square-foot headquarters in Northeast Minneapolis. The company says it now fabricates more than 400 unique components per roaster using in-house laser cutting, forming, welding and CNC machining. "Having our own production facility 40 steps away from our designers and engineers makes everything seem possible," Mill City Roasters Vice President Angie Davis told Daily Coffee News."
Mill City Roasters introduced the M-Series flagship roasters in 6-, 10- and 20-kilogram capacities. Fabrication moved in-house to a 40,000-square-foot headquarters in Northeast Minneapolis, enabling production of more than 400 unique components per roaster through laser cutting, forming, welding and CNC machining. The M-Series integrates traditional drum roasting with automation via a laser-welded monolithic chassis that stores and releases heat to rely more on latent energy than applied burner heat. Machines feature shaftless double-walled drums to diffuse burner heat, a new fan output, operator-optimized layout, redesigned cooling tray, trim options, custom branding and RoastPath software with a haptic jog wheel.
