Justin Boudeman, a U.S.-born Michigan native, founded Longboard Specialty Coffee after settling in Boquete in 2000 following years of surfing. Boudeman produced high-end Panamanian Gesha coffee at the Misty Mountain farm and pursued organic and biodynamic practices without insecticides, herbicides, or fungicides. He died Aug. 30 at age 52 following cancer. An inaugural "Into the Mist" private auction on M-Cultivo featured 12 Longboard microlots and fetched an average price of $4,668 per kilogram, with one lot exceeding $10,000 per kilogram. Family members and staff are maintaining the business and continuing his commitment to quality.
