Free Global Library Brings Shade-Grown Coffee Into the Light
"By making the science accessible, we can accelerate the transition to coffee landscapes that are shade-grown, climate-resilient and farmer-centered,"
"It aims to serve as a living knowledge base for all stakeholders committed to transforming coffee into a driver of sustainability."
"It was created to support evidence-based action in the coffee sector, helping stakeholders design shade-grown coffee policies, programs and practices that retain and even increase tree cover in farms and agricultural landscapes, empower farmers and build climate resilience,"
The Coffee Agroforestry E-Library provides open access to 1,317 academic references on agroforestry in coffee spanning more than 60 years. Coffee Watch and CATIE compiled the database to centralize scattered research and speed evidence-based decision-making across the coffee sector. The resource supports design of shade-grown coffee policies, programs and practices that retain or increase tree cover, empower farmers and build climate resilience. Agroforestry in coffee is promoted for climate resilience, carbon storage, biodiversity conservation and diversified farm income, while also being noted as sometimes used for greenwashing, measurement challenges and funding needs for conversions. The library is hosted on the Zotero platform as a living knowledge base for stakeholders committed to sustainability.
