Bryan Schneider, a seasoned bartender, has realized his long-held vision of opening a Moby-Dick-inspired bar, named Quick Eternity, near the Hudson River. The bar pays homage to Herman Melville's classic through its design, atmosphere, and name derived from the book. Quick Eternity aims to create a modern interpretation of a maritime tavern, featuring elegant decor with heavy brick walls and leather-backed chairs. The establishment, which opened at the South Street Seaport, reflects Schneiderâs journey and love for literature, presenting patrons with a unique drinking experience.
"While reading the novel a decade ago, I took about ten pages of notes for a Moby-Dick-inspired bar," Schneider told Time Out New York, also describing how he was taken by the book's ties to New York and the vivid description of the smoke-laden, whaling tavern in chapter three, named The Spouter Inn.
...to chase and point lance at such an apparition as the Sperm Whale was not for mortal man. That to attempt it, would be inevitably to be torn into a quick eternity.
