White Sox promote SS Colson Montgomery to make MLB debut
Briefly

Colson Montgomery has been promoted from Triple-A Charlotte to the Chicago White Sox to make his major league debut against the Colorado Rockies. At 23 years old, he was notified of his promotion unexpectedly by Charlotte manager Sergio Santos. Montgomery, a first-round pick in 2021 and currently the White Sox's No. 5 prospect, has performed well in Charlotte despite a low batting average. To accommodate his promotion, the team designated third baseman Vinny Capra for assignment and activated left-hander Fraser Ellard from the injured list.
Montgomery was then overwhelmed with emotions.
Montgomery is rated the White Sox's No. 5 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
The White Sox also activated left-hander Fraser Ellard (lat) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Charlotte.
Chicago designated third baseman Vinny Capra for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot for Montgomery.
