The Chicago White Sox paid tribute to Bobby Jenks following his death from cancer at 44. They held a moment of silence and wore No. 45 patches commemorating him during their game. Jenks announced his diagnosis of Stage 4 adenocarcinoma earlier in the year while in a hospital in Portugal. He was a key player on the 2005 championship team and served as the team's closer for five seasons. General Manager Chris Getz, a former teammate, recalled Jenks as a special person with a big heart and great competitive spirit.
"He'll be dearly missed. You know, I'm just happy that I was able to play with him, because he really was a special person. ... "
"Just a big heart. He was just this most fun-loving kid. And obviously a tremendous competitor."
