Start of Thursday's Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Guardians game delayed because of rain
Briefly

The series opener between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians at Rate Field is delayed because of rain. The scheduled start time was 6:40 p.m. Jonathan Cannon is the Sox's starting pitcher and previously allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Colorado Rockies. Manager Will Venable sets expectations for Cannon to pitch stronger into the game than his prior performances. The Guardians are visiting Chicago for their first series this season, which spans four games through Sunday.
Jonathan Cannon is the scheduled starter for the Sox. He allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings during his last start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Manager Will Venable stated, "It was three ups the first time returning from a lower back strain, six ups the second time, wasn't able to get through that sixth inning - so not necessarily looking for him to pitch a complete game, but to continue to pitch strong deeper into the game I think is a fair expectation for him."
The Guardians are in Chicago for the first time this season with a four-game series on tap through Sunday.
The Sox were swept in a three-game series April 8-10 in Cleveland.
