Billionaire Justin Ishbia is reportedly increasing his minority ownership stake in the Chicago White Sox, moving away from pursuing the Minnesota Twins. Although Ishbia intends to eventually take majority control from longtime owner Jerry Reinsdorf, the team has reassured fans that no immediate ownership changes are in the works. A recent offer was made to limited partners for shares, valuing the franchise at about $1.8 billion, yet officials emphasize this does not change the operational leadership of the team.
A representative for Ishbia declined to comment to The Athletic, while a White Sox official denied any potential change of ownership is in the works.
White Sox vice-president of communications Scott Reifert said in a statement to multiple media outlets, 'This offer to limited partners has no impact on the leadership or operations of the Chicago White Sox and does not provide a path to control.'
