Colson Montgomery debuted for the Chicago White Sox, feeling reassured by familiar teammates. He displayed excellent defense at shortstop and had a .000 batting average, obtaining a walk and reaching base through interference. Montgomery was called up from Triple-A Charlotte as another prospect this season. Rookie Edgar Quero contributed a homer, while Grant Taylor secured the save. Chase Meidroth also had a notable debut with three walks and a hit, becoming the second player in Sox history with this achievement in a debut game.
These were the guys that were with me in spring training. Just seeing them was really refreshing. That kind of calmed things down and slowed things down because these guys are my buddies.
I think my approach at the plate is I'm trying to give the bat to the next guy with me on first base any way I can.
Meidroth became the second player in Sox history to record three walks in his major-league debut. The other was Ray Morehart on Aug. 8, 1924, against Washington.
Montgomery also displayed outstanding defense at shortstop, including an incredible over-the-shoulder diving catch that saved a run in the second inning.
