The Tampa Bay Rays acquired veteran catcher Matt Thaiss from the White Sox, giving up outfield prospect Dru Baker in return. Thaiss, who has struggled with a .212 batting average in 35 games this season, is set to replace Ben Rortvedt, the current backup whose performance has been disappointing. The Rays also maneuvered their roster by moving Jonny DeLuca to the 60-day injured list. Thaiss was the 2016 first-round draft pick and had his most successful season in 2023, hitting nine homers and 31 RBIs for the Angels.
