Mark Buerhrle, who finished his career with Blue Jays, may have a Hall of Fame case
"A crafty lefty. A durable workhorse. A stocky southpaw that kept hitters guessing. Those are just some of the ways the 6-foot-2, 240 pound Mark Buehrle was described over the course of his 16-year MLB career that saw him play with the Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays. Buehrle's name is on the Hall of Fame ballot for a sixth time this year and earned 11.3% of the vote in 2025."
"It's not like it is today where seemingly every team has multiple guys that can reach 98+ mph, but Buehrle didn't need the high velocity to fool hitters. His fastball averaged in the 85-87 mph range, but he used a deceptive mix of pitches that included a four-seamer, sinker, cutter, curve and changeup that he used to pound the zone and force hitters to get themselves out."
Mark Buehrle compiled a 16-year MLB career with the Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays. He appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot for a sixth time in 2025, receiving 11.3% of votes after prior totals ranging from 5.8% to 11%. Buehrle relied on deception and a varied pitch mix rather than velocity, with a fastball averaging 85–87 mph complemented by sinker, cutter, curve and changeup. He depended heavily on defense and finished among the most durable starters of his generation, posting a streak of seasons with at least 200 innings and 30 starts that lasted through 2015.
