In a remarkable weekend for the Chicago White Sox, four young pitchers from Massachusetts—Sean Burke, Mike Vasil, Jared Shuster, and Shane Smith—each made their major league pitching debuts at Fenway Park. They expressed their excitement about the experience, with Burke highlighting the special bond they share. Vasil celebrated the significance of returning to Fenway as a fan turned player, while Shuster noted the rarity of such a moment for local players. Smith, in just his fourth major league start, cherished the presence of family and friends in the stands during this unforgettable occasion.
These are three guys I knew even before the White Sox, too. To kind of all meet here to be able to do it in the same weekend is really cool.
It's definitely a full-circle moment. You grow up a fan of the team and you find your way back here on probably one of the more special weekends in the entire city.
It's awesome, not a lot of big leaguers are from Mass., so it's cool to have all four of us on the same team and to show the guys coming up that anything's possible.
Just to be here and see all my family and friends in the stands, that just means a lot to us.
