Kerry Carpenter of the Detroit Tigers was removed from the starting lineup against the Chicago White Sox due to tightness in his right hamstring. Manager A.J. Hinch indicated that Carpenter has been managing this issue for a few days and will be cautious by using him as a pinch-hitter instead. Carpenter has a history of injuries and has not completed a full season in the majors, having faced multiple injuries in prior years. This season so far, he has 13 home runs and is hitting .273 across 57 games.
"He's been dealing with this for a couple of days, navigating through the typical wear and tear of the season," manager A.J. Hinch said, adding Carpenter remains available as a pinch-hitter. "We're just being cautious."
"That's why I've DH'd him a couple of days in a row. I sat him on Sunday. I pulled him early last night. I was going to put him in the outfield, but an after meeting with him today, I decided to scratch him."
