Detroit Tigers reunite with former 4th-round draft pick Gage Workman
Briefly

The Detroit Tigers have reacquired infielder Gage Workman after the Chicago Cubs initially selected him in the Rule 5 Draft. Workman's time in the MLB was rocky, having registered only three hits in 12 games with the Cubs and a similar performance with the White Sox, where he faced injury issues. After being placed on waivers by the White Sox and going unclaimed, he was returned to the Tigers. Previously, Workman had a promising season in the minors in 2024, showing potential with strong offensive stats at Double-A Erie.
Workman, who the Cubs selected from the Tigers in December's Rule 5 Draft, is being returned to Detroit according to his transaction log.
As part of the Rule 5 Draft rules, Workman was added to the Cubs' Opening Day roster but struggled in his limited time on the North Side.
He played in 12 games, registering three hits in 17 plate appearances before being traded to the Chicago White Sox.
Instead of adding him back to the roster when he returned, the White Sox put him on waivers.
