Sean Sweeney, 41, has built an NBA coaching career through long assistant roles and promotions. He played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the University of St. Thomas before entering the NBA as a video coordinator with the New Jersey Nets from 2011 to 2013. When Jason Kidd became head coach in 2013, Sweeney was promoted to assistant coach. He followed Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014 to 2018, then moved to Detroit under Dwane Casey after Kidd left. He returned to Kidd’s staff with the Dallas Mavericks from 2021 to 2025. This season, he joined the San Antonio Spurs and was promoted to associate head coach.
