Owels was a valuable contributor on special teams, appearing on over 55 percent of snaps in that phase each season, and logged 429 defensive snaps during the injury-plagued 2024 secondary. While not a superstar, he provided useful depth and is remembered for scoring the first touchdown of the 2024 season following a blocked punt. His departure marks the fifth defensive back from the 2025 Bears roster to leave for other NFL teams. The Bears addressed these departures by signing safety Coby Bryant, a recent Super Bowl winner with Seattle, and defensive back Cameron Lewis.
