Off Day Cubs Stuff 5/11
"As you can see from the standings, the Cubs have a 3.5 game lead in the NL Central, thanks in part to their own hot streak prior to running into a motivated Rangers squadron as well as Nick Castellanos doing them a solid. The entire division is off today, and there are only six games on the schedule with half of them on the West-ish side (though I guess Texas is in the Central Time Zone) because MLB scheduling is silly quirky now."
"But this does mean the Cubs will hold on to first place through the entire series in Atlanta, and the division lead will really depend on whether the pitching holds up in the midst of injuries and the offense remembers how to score. The off day is very welcome given the long stretch of games they've played, during which they took and built the current cushion, and then there's just one more off day after a nine game stretch coming up before they play straight through the end of the month until the next one on June 1."
"Brutal, but just keep chugging, don't get swept, and see where we end up from there."
The Cubs lead the NL Central by 3.5 games, supported by their own hot streak and additional help from Nick Castellanos. The division has no games on the day, leaving only six games scheduled overall, with several on the West-ish side. The Cubs are expected to maintain first place through their series in Atlanta. The division lead will depend on whether pitching remains effective despite injuries and whether the offense can consistently score. An off day provides rest after a long stretch of games in which the Cubs built their cushion. Another off day follows after a nine-game stretch, after which they play continuously through the end of the month until June 1.
