Mavericks Trade Anthony Davis to Wizards in Blockbuster
"Shams Charania of ESPN reports that the Mavericks are sending Washington a trade package centered around Davis, shooting guard Jaden Hardy, and little-used point guards D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum in exchange for the contract of former three-time All-Star wing Khris Middleton, former lottery pick center Marvin Bagley III, shooting guard Malaki Branham, two first-round draft picks and three second-round selections."
"Per Charania, the returning picks package is as follows: a 2026 first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder, a protected first in 2030 from the Golden State Warriors, and seconds from the Phoenix Suns in 2026, the Bulls in '27, and the Houston Rockets in '29. Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reports that Washington had been inquiring around the league for takers on Middleton's $33 million salary this season,"
The Mavericks are sending Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Wizards in exchange for Khris Middleton's contract, Marvin Bagley III, Malaki Branham, two first-round picks and three second-round selections. The returning picks include a 2026 first-round from the Oklahoma City Thunder, a protected 2030 first from the Golden State Warriors, and second-round picks from the Phoenix Suns (2026), Chicago Bulls (2027) and Houston Rockets (2029). Washington already has second-year center Alex Sarr, viewed as a floor-spacing power forward, so the heavier Davis is expected to play center. Washington had sought takers for Middleton's $33 million salary before settling on Davis. Davis was the No. 2 on the Los Angeles Lakers' 2020 championship team. The move allows Dallas to dip below the luxury tax and salary-cap aprons next season.
