Kris Bryant Talks About His Pain, and What Comes Next - Bleacher Nation
"Anytime my feet hit the ground, I feel like I could probably fall over,"
"Obviously I have to [cling to hope]. Because it's not just something I'm going to deal with now, I'm going to deal with this the rest of my life. I've talked to a lot of people about it. I know a ton of people, not just playing baseball, but people who have terrible backs too. I could never have expected this or seen this coming. And now that I'm dealing with it, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It's miserable .... Some days it's hard to grab the toothpaste in front of me. It's not like that every day, but those days it's like you just wish you had some type of answer."
Kris Bryant will begin the season on the 60-day Injured List because of a degenerative disc condition that produces significant daily pain. He reports episodes of instability and severe discomfort when standing and waking, and describes some sensations as feeling like his whole body is being electrocuted. The pain can interfere with simple tasks such as grabbing toothpaste and varies day to day. Bryant is working with training staff and doctors to determine next steps and is speaking with other people who have severe back problems. He acknowledges the condition may be lifelong and is holding onto hope for answers.
