Jed Hoyer and other executives gathered in Las Vegas during the winter meetings. The Cubs plan an active offseason with the largest focus on pitching because the pitching depth chart is thinner than the position-player group. The club declined a three-year extension option on Shota Imanaga due to his performance decline and the financial and no-trade implications of a guaranteed near-$20 million annual contract. Imanaga declined a $15.25 million player option and received a $22.025 million qualifying offer. The likelihood that Imanaga accepts the QO for 2026 appears to be increasing, with a restructured deal possible amid 2027 uncertainty.
