Rivalry weekend features 15 matchups pairing teams expected to be rivals. Some rivalries are inherently fun when teams are co-located and compete for regional dominance, such as Mets-Yankees, Cubs-White Sox, and Angels-Dodgers. Other pairings feel less intuitive, including Twins-Brewers. Additional matchups include Braves-Red Sox and Diamondbacks-Rockies, which may not fit the same level of geographic rivalry. Blue Jays-Tigers is presented as possibly more justified than other less natural pairings. Changing any of the matchups would require finding new partner teams to replace the original pairings.
"It's Rivalry Weekend or whatever - 15 matchups that I guess link two teams that are supposed to be rivals together."
"Sometimes, this is inherently fun, like when the teams in question are basically co-located and it's a battle-for-the-jurisdiction of sorts (Mets-Yankees, Cubs-White Sox, and I guess even Angels-Dodgers, sorta)."
"Sometimes, it's a bit weirder, a la Twins-Brewers. And then there are the leftover teams, including Braves-Red Sox, Diamondbacks-Rockies, and maybe Blue Jays-Tigers (though maybe you feel that one is more justified)."
"Would you change any of these? Keep in mind that if you do, you have to find a new set of partners as needed."
