Suzuki batted with Shaw on second base and Bregman on first. Seiya blooped a ball to right field that landed for a hit. Shaw hesitated, slowing as if the ball might be caught, and reached third base. Bregman also advanced to third, assuming Shaw would score easily. Trying to stretch the play, Seiya was thrown out at second amid the confusion. Bregman was then tagged out as the second runner occupying third base. Finally Shaw wandered off the bag and was tagged out as well, producing multiple outs and a chaotic, self-inflicted inning collapse.
