The Iowa Cubs ended an eight-game losing streak but lost the next game, falling 1-0 to the Memphis Redbirds. Jordan Wicks pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, striking out two, and walking two. Over his last three outings, he allowed one run across 15.0 innings. Iowa managed six hits and three walks but failed to score. The only run came in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Luis Peralta. Iowa had late opportunities with runners in scoring position in the sixth and eighth innings but came up empty. South Bend won 7-1 over West Michigan, while other minor league games were shortened or postponed.
"The Iowa Cubs dropped Thursday's matchup to the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) by the score of 1-0. While the team may not have won, though, Jordan Wicks was really solid again. He tossed five innings of scoreless baseball, allowed just one hit, struck out two, and walked two. In his last three outings, Wicks has allowed just one run over 15.0 innings of work. With the big league club in need of bullpen arms, Wicks might be someone who's on track for another look soon."
"As for the lineup, while they didn't score, they did get their fair share of baserunners. The Cubs had six hits and drew three walks on the day, but they just couldn't come up with anything to bring those runners around to score. The lone run of the ballgame came in the sixth inning. A bases-loaded sac fly off Luis Peralta gave the Redbirds the first and only lead of this one."
"Iowa did have chances late. In the sixth, they had runners on second and third with two outs. In the eighth, they had the tying run on second with two outs. Unfortunately, they came up empty in those spots and dropped this one.
