Cubs Prospects Report | May 18th, 2026: Iowa Loses Late, Knoxville Rallies For Win, More - Bleacher Nation
The South Bend Cubs’ bats cooled off as the final game of their series was rained out. The Iowa Cubs lost their series finale against the Nashville Sounds, scoring first in the second inning on a sac fly by Scott Kingery that plated James Triantos. Iowa led 1-0 until the sixth, when Paul Campbell’s replacement, Corbin Martin, allowed a solo homer to give Nashville the lead. Iowa regained the advantage in the seventh on an RBI double by Kingery and added insurance in the ninth with an RBI single by Triantos. Iowa led 3-1 into the ninth, but Nashville scored twice on a walk and a sac fly, then won on a game-ending single. Elsewhere, late-inning rallies swung outcomes for Iowa and Knoxville, and Myrtle Beach played a seesaw battle.
"Iowa took a 3-1 lead into the ninth, but sadly, that wouldn't be enough. With the bases loaded and no one out, Gabe Klobosits walked in a run to make the score 3-2. After that, with one out, a sac fly tied the game. Then, with two on and two out, the Sounds walked it off with a game-winning single."
"The score stayed at 1-0 all the way until the bottom of the sixth. Paul Campbell exited after a strong five innings on the mound with four strikeouts, allowing just two hits and two walks. Corbin Martin took over, and he unfortunately gave the lead away with one swing of the bat on a solo homer."
"In the seventh, the Cubs answered right back, though. Kingery drove in his second run of the game with an RBI double, giving the Cubs a 2-1 lead. In the ninth, with the score still 2-1, Triantos added some insurance with an RBI single of his own."
"The Iowa Cubs dropped a tough one in their series finale against the Nashville Sounds (Brewers) on Sunday. Iowa started the scoring in the top of the second on a sac fly from Scott Kingery that brought home James Triantos. Triantos paced the Cubs offense with three hits on the afternoon, but the rest of the lineup combined for just two hits."
