Cubs Prospects Report | May 14th, 2026: Alcantara Homers, McGwire's Strikeouts, More - Bleacher Nation
Iowa Cubs lost 4-1 to the Nashville Sounds, with Kevin Alcántara hitting a solo home run in the second inning to give Iowa an early 1-0 lead. Iowa managed only six total hits. Connor Noland started and allowed three runs on six hits over five innings, including a tying solo homer in the second and additional runs in the fifth and eighth. Knoxville Smokies fell 9-5 to the Columbus Clingstones after an early 1-0 lead from Alex Ramírez’s double. Grant Kipp allowed three runs in the first, and Knoxville later tied the game in the third using an RBI double by Andy Garriola and another RBI hit from Ramírez.
"The game started out on a high note with Kevin Alcántara's 14th home run of the season - a second-inning solo blast - giving the Cubs a 1-0 lead. But unfortunately, that's where the scoring began and ended for Iowa. The Cubs were held to just six total hits in this one."
"Connor Noland got the start for Iowa, and he was fine. He allowed three runs off six hits in five innings of work. In the second inning, he surrendered a solo homer that tied the game. Then in the fifth, the Sounds took a 3-1 lead on a fielder's choice followed by an RBI single."
"Things started out on a promising note when Alex Ramírez doubled in the first run of the game, giving the Smokies a 1-0 lead in the first. But the Clingstones answered right back in the bottom of the first with a trio of runs off Grant Kipp, and almost immediately the 1-0 lead became a 3-1 deficit."
"Knoxville fought back to tie it in the third, though. First, Andy Garriola came up with an RBI double, then it was Ramírez again, coming up with a clutch hit, bringing in Garriola on an RBI single."
