"Chicago Cubs prospects are set to face prospects from the Padres system at 7:05pm CT on March 21 at Sloan Park for their Spring Breakout game. Today, MLB announced the player pools for each organization, which is just kind of an initial layer of eligibility before the final rosters come just before the games (this way there is some flexibility because of the WBC and for injuries)."
"If you're wondering how they came up with that list, it's the MLB Pipeline top-30, plus 10 players selected by the Cubs to replace prospects who cannot otherwise participate (injured or on the 40-man and elect not to play). So it's a good bet that any of the included non-top-30 guys will be participating, while I would generally not bet on the 40-man roster guys with a shot to make the big league roster to participate."
The Chicago Cubs prospects are scheduled to face Padres prospects at Sloan Park on March 21 at 7:05pm CT for their Spring Breakout game. MLB announced the player pools for each organization, establishing initial eligibility before final rosters are determined closer to the games. The Cubs' pool consists of 50 players: 15 pitchers, 4 catchers, 11 infielders, and 10 outfielders. The selection process includes the MLB Pipeline top-30 prospects plus 10 additional players chosen by the Cubs to replace those unable to participate due to injury or 40-man roster status. Non-top-30 selected players are likely to participate, while 40-man roster players with big league roster potential may not. Final rosters will be announced in a couple weeks.
