Could A Coby White Trade Push Rockets To A Title?
"Another rumor emerged recently that the Detroit Pistons, who could use a bit of 3-point marksmanship help, are also contemplating a move for White. Now, a new team has emerged as a possible White suitor: the Houston Rockets. Sidery suggests that Chicago team president Arturas Karnisovas could be open to a deal surrounding a future Houston first-round draft pick (the Rockets have many), plus the contract of a veteran like Dorian Finney-Smith or the injured Steven Adams to match money."
"Sporting a 30-17 record, No. 4-seeded Houston does already look like one of the West's best as-is this season. But the Rockets are clearly missing nominal starting point guard Fred VanVleet, who tore his ACL in September and could miss the season. Second-year former Houston lottery pick Reed Sheppard has emerged as at least an NBA-caliber player this season, but the 21-year-old Kentucky product is no VanVleet. Not yet, anyway. Right calf tightness has limited White's availability to just 28 games so far this season. The 25-year-old has steadied himself of late, after a patchy shooting start from deep. He's been averaging 18.5 points on .439/.350/.810 shooting splits, 4.8 assists (against 3.0 turnovers), and 3.5 rebounds a night."
Chicago has little appetite to extend Coby White and has not reached a contract agreement ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Houston Rockets have all been linked to White as teams seeking guard upgrades or additional 3-point shooting. Arturas Karnisovas could be open to a deal centered on a future Houston first-round pick plus a veteran contract such as Dorian Finney-Smith or Steven Adams to match salaries. Houston is 30-17, missing Fred VanVleet, while Reed Sheppard develops. White has missed games with right calf tightness and is averaging 18.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.
